America Votes’ President Greg Speed issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision in Watson v. Republican National Committee:
“This welcome decision from the Supreme Court will help to ensure that millions of Americans can continue to safely and securely vote by mail under the rules that have existed in their states for many years.
“This case brought by MAGA Republicans was intended to sow doubt and confusion in election processes in an ongoing coordinated attack on voting rights. We will now continue fighting efforts to attack voting by mail through illegal executive orders and abuse of the postal service. Tactics like changing deadlines, weaponizing the USPS, and moving polling locations or ballot drop boxes are not about election integrity. They are only meant to confuse voters who previously used absentee mail voting to make their voices heard. We have seen this playbook used time and time again: when MAGA Republicans don’t think they can win, they try to change the rules.
“Above all, this case and all the other recent developments related to voting processes underscores the critical importance of voter education amid continued attacks on democracy. The America Votes coalition will continue working tirelessly to reach every eligible American to ensure they have the information needed to exercise their right to vote and have that vote counted. In November and beyond, we are committed to building a democracy that is reflective of and accessible to all of our communities.”
