America Votes’ Executive Director Daria Dawson and Wisconsin State Director Justin Miller issued the following statement on the results of the April Wisconsin Supreme Court election:

“The results of yesterday’s Wisconsin Supreme Court elections are yet another clear signal from Americans that we do not want this. Even as this president wages war and endangers all of our communities, voters showed up undeterred to exercise their constitutional right. For the second year in a row, voters in the Badger State have elected pro-democracy constitutional candidates, solidifying a majority committed to protecting Wisconsinites’ fundamental rights and upholding the rule of law.

“Despite efforts from the Trump administration and Republican leadership in Congress to roll back voting access, American citizens across the country are showing up to elect pro-democracy champions, including Justice-Elect Chris Taylor,  who will stand up for what Wisconsinites actually need: protecting our freedoms, holding scammers accountable, saving our environment, and providing for future generations.

“Wisconsin’s reputation as the most competitive battleground state is well known, but last night’s rejection of MAGA across the Badger State was staggering. Judge Taylor won many historically Republican counties en route to a 20-point landslide, and a Democrat was elected to mayor of once deep-red Waukesha.

“Leading up to this election, America Votes’ Wisconsin coalition of 18 organizations knocked on more than 90,000 doors and made over 220,000 phone calls to voters. Additionally, partners sent over 1 million text messages and 1.1 million pieces of mail. Where our partner organizations can give voters the information they need to vote, they show up.

“These results, like so many other recent races, all point to our energized base of pro-democracy voters and a deeply weakened MAGA movement.  America Votes will continue working to ensure that every eligible American has the information they need to exercise their right to vote. In the upcoming midterms and beyond, we are committed to building a democracy  that is reflective of and accessible to all of our communities.”
