Last night, the Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s latest attempt to restrict the ability to vote by mail in the upcoming midterm elections. America Votes’ Executive Director Daria C. Dawson issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court’s decision protects the ability of millions of Americans to continue voting by mail under the systems their states already have in place. Military families, senior citizens, disabled Americans, and voters across rural and urban areas have relied on the ability to cast their ballot by mail for decades.  Every eligible voter should have the freedom to choose the voting method that works best for them.

“Donald Trump votes by mail. His family votes by mail. The administration’s actions have created unnecessary confusion and uncertainty around a voting method millions of Americans rely on. Even if the court had ruled another way, it would not stop us from completing our mission of  ensuring that as many eligible Americans as possible exercise their constitutional right to vote.

“Whether you vote by mail, you vote early, or you vote on Election Day,  this is our chance to stand up for our values, our democracy, and the future that we want for our communities and country. With less than 50 days left until Election Day, now is the time to check your voter registration status, understand the voting options available in your state, including early voting, absentee voting, and vote by mail. Make a plan that works for you. Then help your family and friends get ready to do the same. We will not stop working to give every eligible voter the information that they need to make their voices heard at the ballot box.”
