Today the Supreme Court allowed the Trump Administration to move forward with its expanded federal censorship database for voter eligibility checks.  America Votes Executive Director Daria C. Dawson issued the following statement:

“With this ruling, the Supreme Court has allowed the administration to move forward with a system that risks creating confusion and possibly disenfranchising eligible voters. At best, this decision aims to solve a nonexistent problem of widespread voter fraud. At worst, it could be weaponized to take eligible American citizens off the voter rolls. We already know that these databases are not perfect. Eligible citizens have been incorrectly identified as non-citizens before. 

“There are 39 days until the last day to cast a ballot. We are not going to be distracted by the latest chaos coming from Washington. America Votes and our partners are focused on making sure eligible voters know their options, understand the rules in their states, and have the information they need to participate in this election. We will not stop working to give every eligible voter the information that they need to make their voices heard at the ballot box.”
