America Votes’ Executive Director Daria Dawson issued the following statement on President Trump asking the Supreme Court to allow restrictions to voting by mail:
“Donald Trump votes by mail. His family votes by mail. Millions of eligible Americans — including military families, seniors, rural voters, and working people — rely on the ability to vote-by-mail to make their voices heard. But once again, Trump believes he should have a different set of rules than everyone else.
“This latest appeal is not about election integrity; it is about voter suppression. It is just another step in a coordinated campaign to make it harder for eligible Americans to vote, following the Supreme Court’s assault on the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana v. Callais and congressional Republicans’ push for the SAVE America Act — another set of obstacles to voting masquerading as election security. Despite years of investigations, audits, and court rulings, they have produced no evidence of the widespread fraud they claim to be combating.
“MAGA Republicans continue to lie about our elections because they know they cannot win on their policies. Since taking control in Washington, Republicans have failed to lower the high cost of living for Americans, slashed programs working families rely on, and deployed untrained and unvetted federal agents into our communities. Instead of solving the problems Americans face, they are trying to make it harder for Americans to hold them accountable at the ballot box.
“Our democracy works when voters pick their representatives, not when candidates pick their voters and dictate how they should cast their vote. The America Votes coalition will continue organizing, mobilizing, and fighting every attempt to restrict the freedom to vote. When Trump and Republicans cannot win over voters, they try to silence voters. We will not let them.”
