America Votes’ President Greg Speed issued the following statement on the Virginia Supreme Court’s decision released today:

“As Republicans across the South race to dismantle Black representation in Congress, Virginia’s highest court has now overturned a free and fair election in which more than 3 million voters participated. Virginians chose to reject MAGA gerrymanders and level the playing field, but with this decision, the court has denied the will of the voters on a technicality. 

“This decision is yet another travesty for voting rights and fair representation, but MAGA Republicans will fail in their attempt to gerrymander their way back to the majority in 2026. Gerrymandering can’t erase Republicans’ failed leadership and historically unpopular agenda.Taking back the House is still well within our grasp.

“Looking forward, we must redouble our efforts to enact structural democracy reforms, starting with a renewed and expanded Voting Rights Act, and by using every tool available to ensure fair elections and representation, so that the power truly rests with the people. In the short-term, we must continue fighting tooth and nail on every front: in the courts, at the polls, and through the maps in every Blue state.”
