The America Votes Senior Leadership Team issued the following statement in response to Trump announcing he intends to lead a movement to end mail-in voting:

“Yesterday, Trump launched his most blatant attack so far on each American’s right to vote. This power grab is yet another distraction from skyrocketing inflation and his scandal-plagued presidency.

“The U.S. Constitution makes it clear that states run our nation’s elections, not the federal government. In 2024, more than 30% of voters cast their ballot through the mail. Voting by mail, for Democrats and Republicans alike, remains a secure, accessible, convenient, and popular way to vote. This attack is another example of Trump’s never-ending crusade to limit democracy and strip away rights. This is an undisguised attempt to preemptively delegitimize the 2026 election and undermine voters’ confidence in our electoral system. 

“America Votes and our partners will continue to closely monitor developments on this assault on voting access and will fight to protect every American’s constitutional right to vote.”
