The America Votes Senior Leadership Team issued the following statement January 20, 2025:
“This Inauguration Day represents a pivotal moment in our nation’s history and the beginning of what is sure to be a challenging new era in our coalition’s fight for progress. As we enter this new administration, America Votes will continue to bring together impactful partner organizations to grow and engage the electorate, strengthen American democracy, and provide a safe space for our partners and the communities they represent.
“Today is, of course, also a day to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his unyielding dedication to creating a just society and democracy that is reflective of and accessible to all Americans– goals at the core of America Votes’ mission. Building this democracy is not the work of any one election, and we remain committed to that work.
“In 2024, the America Votes coalition ran our largest-ever voter engagement and mobilization program. Together, our partner organizations knocked over 58 million doors and made more than 90 million phone calls to connect with voters. This unprecedented level of outreach yielded over 15 million conversations in the top seven battleground states alone. Last year, the America Votes coalition also registered more than 713,000 new voters in key states– a huge step toward creating an electorate that is more reflective of the U.S. population.
“For more than 20 years, America Votes has brought together organizations that share the common goal of strengthening our democracy and protecting every American’s right to vote. Through hard-fought victories and difficult setbacks, our coalition has continued to meet the moment because the stakes are too high to step away. Today, we enter the next chapter of this critically important work and we reaffirm our dedication to protecting the fundamental right to vote for which Dr. King and so many others fought.
“Finally, as an occupant who represents the antithesis of Dr. King’s values, life, and legacy returns to the White House, America Votes renews our commitment to realizing Dr. King’s vision of the long and just arc of the moral universe and to delivering on the promise of his dream.”
